Peter Gouldthorpe

Peter Gouldthorpe was born in Melbourne in 1954 and in 1973 moved to Tasmania where he now lives. He is recognised as one of Australia’s most versatile and skilful illustrators, adept at capturing and evoking the deepest emotions through his art, notably in picture books for older readers. Apart from illustrating children’s books, Peter also paints landscapes, portraits and commissioned work, and designs stage sets. His outstanding illustrations can be seen in such popular picture books as Paul Jennings’ Grandad’s Gifts, Gary Crew’s First Light, Hist! by C.J. Dennis and Libby Hathorn’s The Wonder Thing, which has just been published in paperback by Puffin. Peter has received many awards and commendations for his beautiful work, including the Children’s Book Council Picture Book of the Year Award for First Light in 1994.
