Girl Power! Books about ‘Girls’

Ever noticed how many new books have ‘girl’ in the title? We can’t help wondering if it’s a coincidence or if it’s a ‘thing’. On a recent book shopping trip, we noticed at least six recent releases that contain the word ‘girl’ in the title. Currently topping the charts is the thriller The Girl on the Train from Paula Hawkins; there’s the moving memoir of Maria Katsonis, The Good Greek Girl; the heartbreaking Girl in the Dark by Anna Lyndsey; the revealing memoir from Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon, Girl in a Band; Anita Diamant’s poignant novel, The Boston Girl and The Girl in the Red Coat, a moving novel from Kate Hamer. Then there was last year’s unforgettable novel by Eimear McBride, A Girl Is A Half-Formed Thing and, of course, leading the pack, the bestselling Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl from 2012, making eight in total (and we haven’t even included any of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy in this list).

Perhaps some of these new ones are destined to become bestsellers too? Are there any more books with ‘girl’ in the title? Please share in the Comments.
