Mind-Bendingly Amusing: Review of The Utterly Indescribable Thing that Happened in Huggabie Falls by Adam Cece

Unstoppable author Adam Cece is back with the third and final instalment in the hilarious (and not to mention weird!) Huggabie Falls trilogy. If you’ve been reading along with us over the last year, you will have experienced the quirky and mind-bendingly amusing first two books The Extremely Weird Thing that Happened in Huggabie Falls and The Unbelievably Scary Thing that Happened in Huggabie Falls. Now, we have The Utterly Indescribable Thing that Happened in Huggabie Falls.

You may be wondering how Adam Cece can manage to write about something that is indescribable and at least for part of the book, so is he! That’s one of the wonderfully quirky aspects of this trilogy – the author just pops in every now and again for a chat or to explain why the plot ended up going the way that it did. This, the third book in the series takes this to a whole new level with characters attempting to visit the author to express their feelings about the plot, turning things upside down while stretching little imaginations.

Everyone appears to be leaving Huggabie Falls in a hurry; friends Kipp, Tobias and Cymphany cotton on to this very quickly and when they find out that the residents of Huggabie Falls are relocating to a nearby place (funnily enough called Near Huggabie Falls), they smell a rat. On top of this, a somewhat questionable looking man has been promoting the wonders of Near Huggabie Falls to residents and then quickly selling them a house there, the only problem being the wonders of Near Huggabie Falls appear to be indescribable. So how are Kipp, Tobias and Cymphony going to convince people to stay when they have no idea what they’re up against? One thing they do know is that the Mayor of Near Huggabie Falls looks suspiciously like the previously evil now reformed Felonious Dark.

If you’re new to this series, then please take a look at our reviews for the first two. These books are a lot of fun and successfully play with kid’s expectations of how a plot should unfold. There’s action galore to keep them interested, but they’ll have to keep their minds sharp and their eyes wide open if they are going to immerse themselves in the surprising world of Huggabie Falls. You have to wonder where author Adam Cece comes up with these ideas. Better yet, leave him to it and sit back and enjoy the quiet while your little readers visit Huggabie Falls, although ‘quiet’ might be overstating it as there will be a few giggles and roars of laughter, but we all love that kind of noise, don’t we?
