Books We’ve Loved this Spring: The Better Reading Team Chooses their Seasonal Highlights

The Better Reading team has well and truly whipped off our winter woolies and boots and now slouching around the office in sandals. We’ve been loving so many of the spring titles that have hit our desks, and thought we’d each share a standout spring title… so far.

Cheryl Akle, Director

I’ve just finished Mary Moody’s The Accidental Tour Guide. What a wonderful, empowering, honest read. We just had Mary in the office to record a podcast and I could’ve talked to her for hours. She’s such a fascinating woman.

Melissa Wilson, Head of Marketing and Children’s Content

A standout kids’ book is You Can Change the World by Lucy Bell. It’s a practical guide designed to empower kids to make changes in their lives to help make a difference in the world. I’ve gone through it with my own children and it has become a favourite in our home. Because I read so many kids’ books for work, I’m quite choosy about the adult titles I read. I absolutely loved There Was Still Love by Favel Parrett. It’s a beautiful book about memory, family and love.

Jane Tara, Lifestyle Editor

I read so many great books but the standout for me this season has been Paris Savages by Katherine Johnson. I am raving about it to everyone. Friends, family, people I know… randoms at the bus stop. Everyone. It’s an utterly brilliant book based on the true story of three Badtjala people from Fraser Island who were taken to Europe to perform in ‘human zoos’. Intelligence, empathy and brutal honesty permeates this exquisitely written book. I could rave about this book for hours. In fact, I do.

Bec Howard, Marketing Coordinator

The Model Wife by Tricia Stringer is a beautifully written, multi-generational family story that I couldn’t put down. I hadn’t read a Tricia Stringer novel before meeting her at the office recently, and I thought she was so great that I took her book home that night. I loved it, and now need to catch up on her backlist.
