Our Next Book Club: Commonwealth by Ann Patchett

Our Next Book Club: Commonwealth by Ann Patchett

A powerful story of two families brought together by beauty and torn apart by tragedy.

For our next Better Reading Book Club Live we’ll discuss Commonwealth by Ann Patchett.

It’s 1964 and Bert Cousins, the deputy District Attorney, shows up at Franny Keating’s christening party uninvited, bottle of gin in hand. As the cops of Los Angeles drink, talk and dance into the June afternoon, he notices a heart-stoppingly beautiful woman. When Bert kisses Beverly Keating, his host’s wife, he sets in motion the joining of two families whose shared fate will be defined on a day – seven years later.

Told with equal measures of humour and heartbreak, Commonwealth is a powerful and tender tale of family, betrayal and the far-reaching bonds of love and responsibility.

The Better Reading Book Club will be on Wednesday September 28th at 8pm AEST on the Better Reading Facebook page. It’s the opportunity to join literally hundreds of other book lovers to discuss some of the great books around today. We had an abundance of great comments at our last book club, not to mention the author of our chosen book AND the Pulitzer Prize joining in on our discussion. We can’t wait to see what the next book club will hold – see you on the couch soon!
