Australian Reading Hour is Coming on Tuesday!

Here at Better Reading, we love books, reading and supporting the wider community that champions reading, which is why we’re so excited for Australian Reading Hour on Tuesday, 14th September.

To celebrate, we are hosting our very own live event on the Better Reading Kids page on Tuesday at 4pm AEST. Children’s author Adrian Beck will be joining us LIVE along with Australia Reads Ambassadors Nat Amoore, Oliver Phommavanh, James Foley, Nicholas J. Johnson, Cristy Burne, and Kate and Jol Temple. They’ll be discussing books, reading and everything in between. This is set to be an event the whole family can enjoy!

Australian Reading Hour is an initiative of Australia Reads, a brilliant not-for-profit organisation founded by the Australian Booksellers Association, Australian Library & Information Association, Australian Publishers Association, and the Australian Society of Authors. Their aim is to get people, young and old, to put their phones down, turn the TV off, and pick up a book! That is certainly something we can get behind.

If you’re looking for more ways to get involved, head on over to the Australia Reads website on Tuesday where they’ll be running a day jam-packed with exciting events led by 300 Australia Reads ambassadors. The theme of the day is Stories that Matter: The Story of Me, the Story of You, and How we are Becoming Us. The aim is to start conversations around how reading shapes our identities and understanding of ourselves.

To celebrate the event, Australia Reads is also releasing four special editions of some fabulous Kids and YA books: AFL Little Legends: The Missing Cup by Nicole Hayes and Adrian Beck, Little Book Big Universe by Lisa Harvey-Smith, illustrated by First Dog on the Moon, The Deep End by Jenna Guillaume, and The Magnificent Hercules Quick by Ursula Dubosarsky, illustrated by Andrew Joyner.
