Every busy preschooler is a Tiny Tradie at heart!
Crikey! Tiny Tradies have a lot of work to do. That’s why they wake up early, have a big brekkie, say g’day to their mates, and get stuck in.
Join the adorable Tiny Tradies as they clock on for their shift, work hard all day, and then wind down for bedtime.
Tami Sussman’s latest picture book is an adorable look at the chaotic lives of the hardest workers of them all, preschoolers. Whether it’s sorting out their tools (toys) or surveying the worksite (playground), the Tiny Tradies are always hard at work.
Inspired by both her childhood and her own experience with toddlers, Sussman wanted kids, parents and carers to feel ‘seen’ and embrace the messy aspects of children’s lives and most importantly, to have a laugh along the way. In our Q&A with Sussman, she talks about how her daughter’s interaction with other toddlers gave her the idea for the book. Noticing how the kids were “noisy, industrious, accidentally destructive, sometimes whingy and occasionally sleepy”, Sussman came to the hilarious conclusion that tradies and preschoolers aren’t so different after all.
Tom Jellett’s vivid illustrations perfectly capture the disorganisation of a preschool, showcasing a multitude of sticky situations the kids find themselves in throughout the day. Whether it’s keeping away from cables, leaving muddy footprints or diaper changing, Jellett’s colourful style keeps you engaged form start finish. I loved scanning each page for the many jokes and hilarious scenes in the background.
Tiny Tradies celebrates the busy and messy lives of preschoolers, making it an entertaining yarn for Australian families. Perfect for kids aged 3+, the blend of wholesome laughs and beautiful illustrations makes this a fabulous gift for any kids just starting preschool.
