Throughout my childhood, I devoured every book I could get my hands on. However, almost none of the literary heroes and heroines that I idolised had a disability or chronic illness.
This representation is really important to me, because I have Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD), a condition which results in frequent joint dislocations, chronic pain, and brain fog.
So when I started writing, I knew that I wanted disabled characters to always be at the centre of my stories – having adventures, making mistakes, and thwarting the baddies.
