Bronwyn Saunders is a passionate citizen scientist who delights in sharing facts about Australia’s natural history with readers. Together with Melbourne-based illustrator, author and science educator Andrew Plant, this duo has delivered a captivating picture book called Diprotodon: A Megafauna Journey.
Follow in the giant footsteps of Diprotodon as he finds his place in the world. Explore his Ice Age environment, his encounters with other megafauna and the challenges he faces to survive.
Diprotodon: A Megafauna Journey features the largest marsupial that ever lived. Brought to life through fabulous illustrations, this story will captivate and enthrall readers.
This picture book belongs in every school classroom and library. There’s so much to explore here. Diprotodon: A Megafauna Journey allows readers, young and old, to learn about the world in a way they might not have before.
Before reading this, I had no idea the Diprotodon even existed, and I suspect many others will be in the same boat. Through this story, readers are prompted to think about extinction, the Australian environment and what Earth was like in prehistoric eras. All kids will love this!
Visually, this is a stunning picture book. Plant does a fantastic job of evoking Saunders’ informative and compelling prose with emotion, feeling and heart through his illustrations. I sense this book will not just be a one-time read for youngsters; read it a few times, and you’ll find something new to discover each time – from the Ice Age through to which animals survived extinction.
From Science, English to The Arts, Diprotodon: A Megafauna Journey covers the whole curriculum, while being entertaining as well as informative. We recommend this book for children aged 6+. There’s something for every reader in this.
