Did you know…
- There’s poo on the moon?
- You will drool enough in your lifetime to fill two swimming pools?
- Whales do 974 litres of pee into the ocean every day?
- There’s a wall covered in chewing gum that’s over 30 years old?
- There’s a robot designed to projectile vomit?
Get ready to discover just how gross our universe really is. Learn the foulest facts about space, Earth, humans, animals and science that have been tested by real scientists, and even do your own gross experiments.
Full to the brim with the world’s filthiest facts and most putrid pictures, this book is sure to make you and your friends say: ‘Eww Gross!’
I’m a huge Dan Marshall fan, having read every book in his backlist. Marshall’s first book, Mind Blown, was born from his passion for graphic design, communicating information visually and his deep curiosity for the incredibly strange place that is our universe. These same passions are imbued in his other books Look Book, No Way!, Super Duper, and now, Eww Gross.
Eww Gross will be right up every kid’s alley. As an auntie of four, I know kids love any excuse to relish in all things gross and disgusting. In typical Dan Marshall style, this book is an entertaining, filthy (obviously) and informative book with bite-sized information and complementary putrid illustrations. This is the kind of book you can read at a steady pace or consume all at once, coming back to it time and time again! My prediction is that most kids will read it all at once – it’s so entertaining.
Our guide, Slimon, loves all things rotten, revolting, despicable and downright disgusting. This book undoubtedly makes learning fun. Readers can rate the facts themselves using the grossometer, and within each section, there are ‘let’s do this’ activity prompts to get kids interacting hands-on with the facts they’re learning.
The book is split up into five sections: space, Earth, humans, animals and science. I’m obsessed with space and the human body, so I was eager to see what gross facts I could learn. Not-so fun fact: our stomach is not where we think it is, and our eyelashes have mites living in them… it’s a good thing they’re mostly harmless!
Marshall’s books embody the phrase you learn something new every day – and with Eww Gross, readers learn a lot. This is perfect for the upcoming gift-giving season and summer reading holidays. Kids are sure to go back to school and share a host of horrid facts. We recommend it for children aged 7+.
