Uplifting and Swoon-Worthy: Read Our Review of It’s Probably You by Jayne Denker

This summer, one woman is going after what she wants and nothing will stand in her way – not even the handsome man next door…

It’s Probably You is an uplifting, heartfelt romantic comedy for fans of Nora Ephron, Emily Henry and Beth O’Leary.

Gillian has been happily single for several years and, after trying a few dating apps, prefers to stay that way. Navigating her way through dates with fat-shamers and lacklustre men has left her with no desire to do anything other than spend time in her garden. Who needs rude comments and awkward first dates when soft roses and vibrant tulips are so much better?

Then Noah moves in next door. Moody, grumpy and way too opinionated, her new neighbour threatens to turn her peaceful sanctuary into a war zone. But with a gardening contest fast approaching, Gillian needs to keep her eye on the prize – and cultivate her happy place on her own terms.

Jayne Denker is a US-based author of romantic comedies – including the fan-favourite slow-burn, The Rom-Com Agenda. Her latest swoon-worthy read is a follow-up to RCA, but while fans will delight in the return to Willow Cove and its familiar cast of beloved characters, it’s also a totally satisfying standalone for first-time readers.

It’s Probably You is a pitch-perfect enemies-to-lovers romp, and a verified ray of sunshine from start to finish. It has everything you could want from a feel-good rom-com: a vibrant small-town community full of quirky characters you’d love to meet IRL (plus a few you’d rather avoid); two flawed but fabulous MCs; a looming gardening competition that keeps the tension simmering; witty banter in spades; and just the lightest sprinkling of spice.

You’re guaranteed to fall in love with Gillian, our equal parts aspirational and relatable FMC. She’s whip-smart, a super talented gardener, a successful pharmacist, and plus-sized (and unbothered) to boot. She’s also a little sassy, maybe even a touch cynical, and she has an ‘inner Bette Davis’ who intermittently pops up – unbidden – and comes out with hilariously dry remarks about Gillian’s love life. Noah is the perfect foil/love interest. Okay, so his life might not be as flawless as his shoulders, but he’s working on it.

The chapters alternate between our two MCs’ perspectives, meaning we get to see events unfold from both their POVs – a delightfully frustrating romance trope that works every time! It’s a joy to see the pair flourish and unfurl alongside their gardens as the chapters progress.

If you’re looking for the perfect big-hearted, feel-good, small-town romance to escape into this summer – it’s probably (definitely) this!

Jayne Denker is the author of romantic comedies, including It's Probably You and The Rom-Com Agenda. When she's not hard at work on another novel (or, rather, when she should be hard at work on another novel), she can usually be found frittering away stupid amounts of time on social media.
