This book is about four friends, Marco, Noah, Mags, and Jordie, who hang out in front of an old family house. They work together to solve a mystery, using teamwork and curiosity. There’s a funny dog poo joke that made me laugh, and the characters felt like kids I might know from school. The pictures are really cool, and I think other primary school kids would like it too. I give it 4.9 out of 5 stars because it’s great, but Mags and Marco could use a bit more common sense. Overall, I totally recommend it! Quinton, Year 3, VIC, 5 stars
A fun, silly and engaging read for young readers of all ages. Perfect to read on their own or with parents for some lighthearted fun Ted, 7, QLD, 5 stars
The preview sample chapter was just enough to wet our appetites and now we’re hooked! Was going to read this over a couple of days with my 8-year-old but we did it in one sitting. I really liked how each of the characters were individual and had their own personalities and they felt like they came from a series of books (not sure if this is their first appearance). My little one loved the spooky, creepy house, scary mutant rats and the mystery. He’s been coming up with theories ever since. Looking forward to the full book coming out as it’s definitely on our wishlist! Stanley, 8, VIC, 5 stars
We read the chapter preview tonight before bed and we laughed so much! Marco is our favourite so far. We can’t wait to see what happens next! Ps this was very easy for my sister and I to take turns reading. Violet, 9, WA, 5 stars
18,000 Holes in the Universe is a really funny book because there are lots of funny things in the book to make you laugh really hard and my mum laughed really, really loudly with me. I didn’t want this sample to end because it ended on a giant cliffhanger! I can’t wait to read the rest! Lucas, 6, VIC, 5 stars
I give this book 4.5/5 stars. I thought the poopy butt part was the most hilarious. I liked the characters, the spooky house, the story behind the family, the mysterious secret message and the glowing golf ball they were supposed to use. I also really liked the illustrations, but I wished they were in colour. I didn’t like how creepy the rats were. They had three tails and a weird face. I’m excited to find out how they are going to play 18,000 holes of golf to save GOLF? Will they save GOLF? Is he still alive? Where has he been? Will the kids get caught by bad guys? I really like reading this kind of book and I want to read more. Cindy Chang (mum of Rachel), 8, WA, 4 stars
Amazing book, my kids loved it, read it in one sitting. Jessica, 10, NSW, 4 stars
My aunty Laura asked me if I would like to read and review 18,000 Holes in the Universe but I wasn’t sure if I would like the book because I don’t know much about golf. But I loved it and thought it was really funny and I laughed out loud in places. It is an adventurous story and I would like to read the whole book when it comes out. I also really liked the drawings and they made it easier to follow the story. I want to be an illustrator when I’m older. Ashlee, 9, WA, 4 stars
This is a partially graphic novel that will undoubtedly be loved by younger readers. There is a gang of five, an old seemingly haunted house, a bully and a mystery to solve. Farts galore and dog poop. Denise, 7-12, NSW, 4 stars
This book is full of fun, farts, mystery and adventure and is an exciting story. The author made it interesting the whole way through. Marco was my favourite, I found it funny how he farts almost all the time and I liked how they were all such good friends and the great teamwork among them and how they help each other. I would love to read the rest of your the book to see if they rescue Grandpa Galileo. Alle, 10, VIC, 4 stars
18 000 Holes In The Universe wasn’t a hit for Alice age 6. She did enjoy the illustrations and reading the book with me but found it more interesting than humorous. She was a bit shocked by the behaviour of the kids and didn’t find any of the faith or poo jokes funny. Alice did like the old house descriptions and the 3 tailed rats. This book is definitely more for boys and while she enjoyed the book she did not love it. Belinda, 6, QLD, 3 stars
