Set against the enchanting backdrop of Venice, Woods brings this city to life with her evocative descriptions of the city, capturing its charm and beauty, adding a rich layer to the narrative. As I delved into this impactful story, I developed a deep connection with each of the four central women, thanks to Woods’ masterful portrayal of their personal growth throughout the book. I loved seeing how the women all came together to support one another through each of their trials, and as the novel progresses the darker their secrets become and thus the more entangled in one another’s lives they become. Woods portrays these secrets in a way which are not only significant but also extremely engaging. Though the story begins as a slow burn, it gradually intensifies, culminating in an unexpected and gripping conclusion. My reading pace quickened with each page as I eagerly sought to discover the outcome.
