The Mummy Animal Book includes 14 double page spreads showing 14 different animals. Each mummy animal is depicted with its offspring in stylised colour illustrations, with fun facts about the unique behaviours of the animal and the special names for the mummy animal and the baby animal.

Mums, grandmothers, and other special people will enjoy exploring this book with little ones, and there is plenty of scope for questions and conversation starters. This book is perfectly suited to be read aloud while looking at the illustrations together.
I particularly enjoyed learning some new facts about animals. The illustrations are quirky and I love the colour palettes selected for each animal family double page. The small format is the right size for little hands (approx. 15cm x 15cm). Adults and children might enjoy sitting together to draw the animals, copying the artists clean, simple style. Older children might be inspired to research other animals to list more unusual mummy and baby names.
Artist and writer Jennifer Cossins lives in Tasmania and has a passion for animals and the environment, travelling and all things bright and colourful. Her retail store, Red Parka, has become an institution for contemporary and original art and design in Hobart. Jennifer designs homewares, textiles and stationery, creates original art prints and cards and is an award-winning Children’s Book Council of Australia artist and writer. This is her seventh book for children.
