Sarah J. Maas’ globally bestselling A Court of Silver Flames, book #5 in her A Court of Thorns and Roses series, has now been re-released in paperback. To celebrate, let’s revisit our review here…
Nesta Archeron has always been prickly – proud, swift to anger and slow to forgive. And since the war – since being made High Fae against her will – she’s struggled to forget the horrors she endured and find a place for herself within the strange and deadly Night Court.
The person who ignites her temper more than any other is Cassian, the battle-scarred, winged warrior whose position in Rhysand and Feyre’s Night Court keeps him constantly in Nesta’s orbit. But her temper isn’t the only thing Cassian ignites. And when they are forced to train in battle together, sparks become aflame.
Meanwhile, the treacherous human queens who returned to the Continent during the last war have forged a dangerous new alliance, threatening the fragile peace that has settled over the realms. And the key to halting them might very well rely on Cassian and Nesta facing their haunting pasts.
Against the sweeping backdrop of a world seared by war and plagued with uncertainty, Nesta and Cassian battle monsters from within and without as they search for acceptance – and healing – in each other’s arms.
Sarah J. Maas is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Crescent City, Throne of Glass and Court of Thorns and Roses series. Her books have sold millions of copies worldwide and are published in thirty-seven languages. Now she returns with A Court of Silver Flames, the highly anticipated fifth instalment in the Court of Thorns and Roses series, and it was certainly worth the wait.
This sizzling new instalment is set after the events of A Court of Frost and Starlight, but functions as the series’ first spin-off, following the perspectives of the hot-tempered Nesta and battle-hardened warrior Cassian. While other characters in the series – and even some readers – have disliked Nesta in the past, viewing her as stubborn and mean-spirited, I’ve always resonated with her character and felt there was another side of her we were yet to see. And that’s exactly what Maas has shown us in A Court of Silver Flames. Fierce, powerful and unapologetically herself, Nesta is truly a force to be reckoned with, and I’m so glad she’s finally been given a worthy storyline here. I also enjoyed watching her relationship with Cassian develop throughout the novel, and the two certainly share some steamy moments.
A number of other familiar characters return in Silver Flames, including Nesta’s sister and Court of Thorns and Roses protagonist Feyre, Feyre’s mate Rhysand, and Nesta’s younger sister Elain.
Sexy, action-packed and oh-so addictive, A Court of Silver Flames is an excellent addition to the Court of Thorns and Roses series, introducing some new characters and opening up plenty of possibilities for the next instalment. I can’t wait to see which direction Maas chooses to take the series next.
