George is a master at weaving the many plotlines together for a thrilling conclusion. Hitting just over 700 pages, you’ll be flying through this faster than you think. There were a few sleepless nights when I just couldn’t put the book down. The novel does delve into some important yet gruesome themes, and though confronting, George handles this carefully and with a great deal of sensitivity.
Lynley himself is back and as rogue as ever. Tough and extremely engaging, Lynley has become one of my favourite characters in crime fiction. After twenty-one novels, you would think we know everything about him, but George still manages to surprise us. We are also treated with many familiar faces from previous novels like Barbara Havers and Winston Nkata. As always, George’s character work is brilliant, and he gives each of her characters a chance to shine, whether it be through their gritty detective work or the smaller, more tender moments.
If you like slow-burn crime thrillers, look no further than Something to Hide. George meticulously crafts her story with enough twists and turns to shake off even the most seasoned crime reader. If you haven’t read any Detective Lynley novels, this is your chance to dive in.
