The Killings At Kingfisher Hill by Sophie Hannah is a Delectably Twisty Mystery

The world’s most beloved detective, Hercule Poirot—the legendary star of Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile—returns in a delectably twisty mystery.

Hercule Poirot is travelling by luxury passenger coach from London to the exclusive Kingfisher Hill estate, where Richard Devonport has summoned him to prove that his fiancée, Helen, is innocent of the murder of his brother, Frank. But there is a strange condition attached to this request: Poirot must conceal his true reason for being there.

The coach is forced to stop when a distressed woman demands to get off, insisting that if she stays in her seat, she will be murdered. Although the rest of the journey passes without anyone being harmed, Poirot’s curiosity is aroused, and his fears are later confirmed when a body is discovered with a macabre note attached…

Could this new murder and the peculiar incident on the coach be clues to solving the mystery of who killed Frank Devonport? And if Helen is innocent, can Poirot find the true culprit in time to save her from the gallows?

Sophie Hannah’s fourth book in her new Hercule Poirot series has not only managed to capture Agatha Christies original charm but add her own spin with some incredible mystery writing. I’ll be honest, I’m a sucker for a good whodunnit and Agatha Christie has always been a favourite of mine to read. Even after re-reading her books so often I’m still finding new clues and hints I missed before.

Hannah is no stranger to mystery and thriller books, and when writing this new series, she has managed to capture the timeless style of those golden age mystery books. Hannah has packed some incredible twists and turns that make the ending that much more satisfying, and even when you think you know who the murderer is, she still manages to keep you on your toes.

Poirot himself still feels as proud and esoteric as he always has, with his trusty companion Catchpool at his side. It’s clear that Hannah is a fan of the original material and put a lot of thought and time into crafting such a rich and charming story.

With intense atmosphere and modern brilliance, The Killings at Kingfisher Hill not only captures the classic feel of Christie’s work, but modernizes the thriller and mystery aspects and brings them into the current era. This is an impressive achievement from the author Sophie Hannah. We loved this book and cannot wait to continue this series.
