When a priceless painting goes missing, Charley – a twelve-year-old viral singing sensation – and her best friend George – camera whizz and budding comedian – are shocked to discover they’re the prime suspects.
Now Charley and George have to prove they’re not international criminals – all while nailing a stellar European tour and keeping up with their homework! But as news of high-profile heists hits the headlines wherever they go, Charley and George keep finding themselves in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
Can they solve these baffling crimes and save themselves, or will their shot for stardom be over almost as soon as it’s begun?
Adam Hills is an internationally recognised comedian and host of award-winning Channel 4 series The Last Leg. Rockstar Detectives is a fabulously funny debut novel by Hills featuring a young detective dream team.
With illustrations from Luna Valentine scattered throughout, I recommend this charming story for readers aged 9+. It’s the perfect read for fans of David Baddiel and David O’Doherty, Sharna Jackson, Robin Stevens.
As a child, I was constantly asked: What do you want to be when you grow up? My answers varied from surgeon to superstar, and Rockstar Detectives’ protagonists Charley and George are living out the rockstar dream at the age of twelve. But when they’re thrust into the world of international criminals, they need to take off their performance gear and put on their detective boots to solve the crime they’re being framed for.
Hills’ comedic background shines through in his writing. With the whirlwind ride Charley and George embark on, there are plenty of funny moments and hilarious twists and turns that will keep readers engaged.
In the midst of its hilarity, the story has a lot of heart and soul, teaching some important lessons. Despite their extravagant lifestyle, Charley and George are grounded and down to earth, dealing with homework, friendships and family – just like any other kid. I’m definitely living vicariously through these characters, and I’m sure everyone else who reads this will too.
