    At the age of twelve, Kerry McGinnis took up a life of droving with her father and four siblings. She worked as a shepherd, droving hand, gardener, stock-camp and station cook, and eventually ran a property near Mt Isa. She is the author of the memoirs Pieces of Blue and Heart Country, and the novels The Waddi Tree and Wildhorse Creek.
