13 Great Books for Dog Lovers of all Ages

Booklovers are quite often dog lovers – there is a natural connection between the two. And if you don’t agree with that, you clearly don’t have a dog. There’s nothing more wonderful than curling up with your dog, a book in one hand and a pat with the other. While they might not read the book, they can read us, and with us. They can even be read to: there are programs and schemes to get children reading to animals. It not only builds literacy skills but is therapeutic.

A study held at UBC Okanagan’s School of Education examined the behaviour of 17 children from Grades 1 to 3 while reading with and without a dog.

“The findings showed that children spent significantly more time reading and showed more persistence when a dog — regardless of breed or age — was in the room as opposed to when they read without them,” says researcher, Rousseau. “In addition, the children reported feeling more interested and more competent.”

So if your child isn’t reading… perhaps a dog would help? #adoptdontshop
