A Place of Wonder: 20 Picture Books that Celebrate the Magic of Libraries

“Libraries are about freedom. Freedom to read, freedom of ideas, freedom of communication. They arBest-quotes-about-libraries-Albert-Einstein-540x823e about education (which is not a process that finishes the day we leave school or university), about entertainment, about making safe spaces, and about access to information.” – Neil Gaiman

At Better Reading, we love and value our libraries – whether they are in our schools, or serving the public. Libraries are community hubs, places of safety and belonging, and wonderful repositories of story and information.

Instilling a love of libraries in small people while they’re still young will set them on a path of discovery for life, and one of our favourite ways to do this, is to share gorgeous stories set in, and around, libraries with them.

We have collated 20 of the BEST fiction and non-fiction picture books that are sure to get your little one interested in libraries – have a browse through them and let us know if any of your favourites are missing!

  1. There is a lovely picture book all the way down under in Australia called “The Children Who Loved Books”. The author/illustrator is Peter Carnavas. Delightful read aloud book. Short and sweet about books, libraries and family togetherness.
