If you cannot bear another Where is the Green Sheep reread, grab the latest book by the same dynamite team: Mem Fox and Judy Horacek! It’s called Ducks Away, and is inspired by the ‘five little ducks that went out one day…’

Thank You Mr Panda is another story about good manners by award-winner Steve Antony. The adorable and quirky Mr Panda is here to teach kids to say thank you in this hilarious book.

Michael Morpurgo and Quentin Blake team up in Didn’t We Have a Lovely Time! Published to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Murpurgo and his wife’s charity, this book is about a young boy who has a life-changing meeting with a horse on a farm, told with Blake’s wonderful illustrations.

Then there’s a story about … how to build a story in Also an Octopus by Benji Davies and Maggie Tokuda-Hall. It’s a wonderful (and very meta) book about storytelling and how you create characters and plot, and it just happen to star a ukele-playing octopus.

The equally cute Pug and Pig are forced to live together in Pug Meets Pig. With important lessons on sharing, accepting change and making new friends, author Sue Lowell Gallion and illustrator Joyce Wan have created a lovely picture book starring an unlikely pair.

We love Alison Lester’s books, and now we can colour them in ourselves with Alison Lester’s Wonderful World! With scenes from classics like Magic Beach, Imagine and Noni the Pony, you’ll have plenty of fun joining the colouring craze.

Music is a great tool for helping kids read, and we love seeing illustrated versions of great songs, like Footloose by Kenny Loggins. All the animals in the zoo start dancing and singing along, and the book even comes with a cd. Check out more of our musical favourites here!

If your child has been through a house move recently, try By The Light of the Moon by Tom Percival. It’s about Ivan trying to settle into his new home but finding himself unable to sleep – and then off a new adventure! A gentle story that can help with a tough transition.
