Recommended for:

Ages 5+

Three reasons to read it:

  1. This book is about unexpected magic that makes you giggle. Marshmallow the unicorn’s horn ZAPs everything in sight, which means ordinary things turn into hilarious surprises like orange juice everywhere, sheep floating in mid-air and teapots dancing around the room! That kind of goofy chaos means every page is a new surprise that’ll keep kids laughing and turning pages to see what will happen next.
  2. Princess Mikka already has all the royal stuff, a palace, amazing dresses for every mood and even her own waterslide, but what she really wants is a pet. When she finally gets her own unicorn, it feels like all her dreams have come true. And even though Marshmallow’s magic doesn’t always behave, that’s exactly what makes the story exciting. It’s a sweet reminder that sometimes having what you wished for means learning something new too.
  3. Princess and Unicorn #1: Mikka’s Magical Surprise is an illustrated chapter book, which means between the words there are lots of fun drawings that show Mikka’s expressions, Marshmallow’s magical messes and all the funny surprises that happen in the kingdom. The illustrations help young readers feel like they’re right there in the story, watching the chaos unfold, which makes reading more exciting and easier for kids who are moving up from picture books to chapter books.
