A jam-packed event to exhilarate young readers: Kids Book Fest

On Saturday October 12, Yarra Libraries and The Little Bookroom will take over the Fitzroy Town Hall’s Grand Ballroom to celebrate the magic of storytelling!

Last year The Little Bookroom held the first Kids Book Fest and it was a resounding success. This October they are back with another jam-packed event to exhilarate young readers and give them a chance to meet their favourite authors.  With an even bigger line up of fabulous kid’s authors, storytelling fun and games, it’s not to be missed if you’re a local or visiting the Fitzroy area.

The day kicks off with a Picture Book Party, an event that includes a fantastic line up of some of your favourite picture book authors and illustrators such as with firm favourites Sophie Beer, Davina Bell, Lucinda Gifford and Leigh Hobbs. This is followed by Words and Pictures with the highly energetic Adrian Beck, Sally Rippin, Ingrid Laguna and many more. If your little bookworm is not inspired by all of that (how could they not be!) then Listen up! Speak Up! With Emily Gale, Nova Weetman, Phillip Gwynne and more will sort them out.

Throughout the day from 10-5pm there is also the Ballroom Bonanza where authors will be signing their books and you can have a chat, a bookshop and publishers will be there to tell you about exciting new books in the pipeline. There’ll be green screen fun, craft stations and of course lots and lots of books. The best thing is that it’s a free event but please register so they know how many little readers are attending.

If you need a nap after just reading about all that is on offer, you’ll also be glad to hear that treats and coffee will also be on hand.

The Little Bookroom regularly host amazing author/book events and this festival brings all of that know how together across one fabulously packed day.

We spoke to The Little Bookroom last year and if you’d like to find out more about their shop, book clubs and author visits please read here.
