Festival For Young Readers

Festival For Young Readers

‘Books and stories have the power to enlarge our lives. The imagination and possibilities they awaken within us, the experiences they reflect and the attention they demand, serve to remind us that we are more exceptional, creative, unpredictable and special than any algorithm can conceive of.’ Katherine Dorrington, Scribblers Festival Director

Exciting news is just in for little book lovers in Perth, Scribblers Festival has announced its program for 2019 and they have a star-studded line up in store for you!

If you’re not familiar with this amazing festival, then jump onto their website here or read our earlier story on the festival here. Scribblers is an annual festival of literature and arts for young people brought to life by cultural non-profit FORM and the Town of Claremont. With programming just for Schools and a weekend for the whole Family, Scribblers Festival invites kids and young adults of all ages to celebrate the magic of storytelling!

Young readers will be thrilled to see Megan McDonald (Judy Moody), Jacqueline Harvey (Clementine Rose, Alice Miranda and Kensy and Max) the hilarious Matt Stanton (Funny Kid) and the legendary Alison Lester amongst others. There’s plenty of art and craft and little ones can also enjoy story time in The Goods Shed that has been transformed into an underwater wonderworld with this reef-themed installation by Indonesian artist Mulyana.

Aside from the enormous array of free events there are a variety workshops that your kids can take part in at a small cost. Ever wanted to know how you favourite children’s author creates characters, how illustrators bring characters to life and how to make your friends laugh at your stories? Why not take the opportunity to learn from the best…

On top of that there is an entire day dedicated to teens and fans of Young Adult novels. Teens will be pleased to know that the program has been entirely curated by a very creative Youth Curator team so it will definitely hit the spot. Expect to see Neal Shusterman (Scythe), Lynette Noni (Medoran Chronicles) and A.J. Betts (Hive, Zac and Mia) amongst others. They can also check out podcasting in the Conversation Caravan where the teen curators will be interviewing authors throughout the day.
