Funny Kid Max is back! In this latest Funny Kid adventure, Max is desperate to wiggle out of the school swimming carnival. Suspiciously his nemesis Abby is also keen to avoid the school swimming carnival, but for an entirely different set of reasons. As we know from previous adventures these two never agree on anything so it seems surprising that they may be thinking of joining forces. With Hugo sidelined by a spotty rash, and Miss Sweet in cahoots with the swimming instructor, will Max be able to prank his way out of the carnival?
Beware of the pool shark and a confusion of water-dancing golden oldies. Don’t sit near Hugo in case you catch the mysterious spotty rash. Keep your distance from Pip and Tyson, the evil/good twins, who seemed to have swapped personalities just to add to the chaos. And whatever you do don’t take your eye off the sea-monster! In the final show-down will Max or Abby triumph?
In the eighth book in the Funny Kid chapter book series, author and illustrator Matt Stanton delivers a smart crack to the funny bone that will leave you giggling with delight. The Funny Kid series is an international hit: children all around the world just can’t get enough of Matt’s zany drawings and hilarious pranks of Max, Duck, Hugo and the gang.
The book is jam-packed with Matt’s excellent drawings which help readers grab context and meaning as they race through the story. The illustrations also add another element of humour to the story, as they are fully integrated with the storyline and really capture the ridiculous facial expressions of the characters. The final punch line is delivered extremely effectively through illustration.
Funny Kid: Belly Flop is perfect for independent readers, reading aloud at bedtime or in the classroom and is definitely a must-have for all aspiring pranksters. However, we can safely recommend this book for all kids 7+.
