2024 Top 100: The Better Reading Team Pick Their Favourite Books

We know our readers love the annual release of the Top 100, but we here in the Better Reading office also get excited. The release of the Top 100 is one of our favourite times of the year. We love poring over the list, picking out our favourites, and counting how many books we’ve read.

Here, each of the Better Reading team members shares their all-time favourite books from the 2024 Top 100 list. Have you read any of these books? And don’t forget to read the full Top 100 list here…

Cheryl – Director

Asking me to choose a favourite book from the Top 100 is like asking me to choose a favourite person in my life – an impossible task. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee came in at number #4 on the list, and is my all-time favourite book, so that’s wonderful. Another standout for me is Honeybee by Craig Silvey. I was so thrilled to see it make it to the #1 spot last year, and I couldn’t be happier to see it there again at #2.

Natalie – Campaign Manager

This is actually an easy one for me. The Handmaid’s Tale is one of my all-time favourite novels. It’s a stunning, provocative read that’s still incredibly relevant today. I’m also a huge fan of the classics, so I’m thrilled to see Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre on the list again. Before You Knew My Name by Jacqueline Bublitz was a powerfully poignant debut and stayed with me long after finishing it.

Lili – Marketing Assistant

You can never go wrong with anything by Trent Dalton; I loved reading Lola in the Mirror and was so glad it placed at #1. With a musical background myself, I’m such a huge fan of Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid. It’s a compelling and layered page-turner, and one of my favourite reads of the year.

Dexx – Marketing Coordinator

I was so glad when I saw The Night Circus on the 2024 Top 100 again. It’s an absolute favourite of mine, and it’s always the book I recommend to people who don’t read much. The Secret History by Donna Tart has fast become one of my all-time favourite novels. I also think I’m the last person on Earth to read Boy Swallows Universebut it absolutely blew me away.
