A Great Event Supporting a Worthy Cause

Better Reading and HQ Fiction took ‘love to town’ again last night, and this time in Lismore. Cheryl chatted to Rachael Johns, Alissa Callen and Lucy Lever in front of a packed crowd of readers at the Sherwood Hotel; the energy in the room was amazing!

During the event, a cheque for $1,500 was given to Col Lee from the Ballina-on-Richmond Rotary Club helping with flood recovery in the area.

The Northern Rivers of NSW was devastated by floods back in February/March 2022. This group has been at the forefront of the Flood Recovery since then. It’s hard to believe that people in the region are still without homes, but they are.

Ballina-on-Richmond Rotary Club is providing and financing for warm, secure and clean box-home housing for many people. In particular, farmers who have been living in tents, Pod villages (which have proven to be a haven for domestic violence, anti-social behaviour and drug addicts), and in makeshift shelters they have constructed with the leftover remnants of their collapsed homes and sheds. In all, we have provided 30 homes that have been completed so far.
