Trending For the Bushfires: #AuthorsForFireys #AuthorsForFiries

Authors are doing their bit to raise money for those impacted by the Australian bushfires by joining in an #AuthorsForFireys #AuthorsForFiries event on Twitter. Authors such as Tara Moss and Peter Fitzsimmons are auctioning off signed books, while other authors like Cheryl Strayed are offering leather-bound or first editions of their books.

Holly Ringland and Liane Moriarty are a couple of the many authors offering the highest bidder the chance for their name to appear in a book.

Some industry professionals are offering their services to aspiring authors, such as an introduction to an agent or a manuscript appraisal, or support in a grant application. Nicole Alexander is offering a Skype session to discuss books, research or rural Australia.

Trent Dalton is offering a Brisbane Book Club a personal visit, where he’ll drop by their next meeting with a bottle of French champagne and read some of the French version of Boy Swallows Universe to them PLUS give the BC members a preview of his next novel.

Interested in bidding for great author items for an excellent cause? Head on over to Twitter. The auction ends on Saturday 11th January.

Great job by all the. Authors for their generosity in donating their books and also to the two Authors who organised it.
Also to the people who have put in bids for the books.
Showing the great Australian spirit that when help is needed after a devastating disaster everyone pitches in to help.

Funny how none of these responses encompass, say, actually volunteering with a fire brigade. Or an SES unit. Or Red Cross. Sadly, Australia’s arts sector seems to view this sort of long term as a thing reserved to mere plebs.
