Three reasons to read it:

  1. In Costa’s Garden #2: Fruit, I really loved how the book transforms fruit into something magical. Instead of feeling like a list of foods, each fruit is treated like a tiny treasure waiting to be discovered. That shift in perspective makes a big difference, because it encourages readers to look more closely at the world around them and realise that even something as everyday as fruit can be fascinating when you slow down and really notice it.
  2. When reading the book, what stood out to me was how strongly it celebrates the joy of simply ‘being in nature’. The garden feels like a place full of possibilities, where every plant and tree has something interesting to offer. The book captures that sense of excitement you get when you’re spotting something new or recognising something familiar in a different way. It makes nature feel accessible and welcoming, rather than something distant or complicated.
  3. In Costa’s Garden #2: Fruit, the illustrations by Quinlan add so much warmth and energy to the experience. Her artwork is vibrant, helping to bring the garden to the page in a way that draws you in straight away. The visuals enhance Georgiadis’ voice, adding personality and movement that make each page feel lively.

About the author:

Costa Georgiadis is a landscape architect, environmental educator and television presenter who has an all-consuming passion for plants and people. He knows how to bring out the best in each and takes great pleasure in bringing them together. As co-creator and host of Costa’s Garden Odyssey for SBS, he caught the attention of a nation. Since 2013, Costa has continued his journey as the much-loved host of one of the ABC’s most iconic and Logie award-winning programs, Gardening Australia. His presenting work with Gardening Australia has been acknowledged with a Silver Logie.

Legend has it that upon being born, Brenna Quinlan promptly picked up a pencil and began to draw. She’s still going, because drawing is important, and because it makes people happy. When she’s not drawing, she’s to be found in the garden, admiring the beauty of a home grown eggplant or the taste of a sun-warmed strawberry. She also likes doing hard things – one time she spent a whole year riding a bicycle across the Americas. She lives in a straw bale house that she built herself, in a permaculture community at the ends of the earth in Denmark, Western Australia.
