Three reasons to read it:

  1. In Duck #1: Look Who’s Talking!, I adored the new coffee shop. It adds this playful sense of mystery that runs through the story, where something as ordinary as a café suddenly feels suspicious. Seeing it through the eyes of Duck, Mouse and Dog makes everything even funnier because they’re trying to figure out something very human in their own unique-animal way. It gives the story a real sense of purpose, pulling you along as the characters try to make sense of what’s going on.
  2. Speaking of the characters, the team-up between Duck, Mouse and Dog is one of the most entertaining parts of the book. Their differences make every interaction feel lively and unpredictable, like anything could happen at any moment. There’s a kind of chaotic friendship energy to them, where plans don’t always go smoothly, but that’s exactly what makes it so enjoyable to read. Watching them work together, even when they don’t quite see eye to eye, creates a lot of humour and heart.
  3. In Duck #1: Look Who’s Talking!, the humour really shines, especially if you’re familiar with the style of the Funny Kid series. The comedy feels energetic and a little bit ridiculous in the best way. Stanton does a good job at building the humour from simple ideas and then stretches them into something laugh-out-loud funny, with exaggerated reactions and playful observations, each complimented by his signature art style.
