What’s the book about?
Everglade loves to hate witches. And as the daughter of the last witch, Wren Westerly is the most hated person in town. She can only imagine what would happen if the townspeople found out she could actually see magic … even if she has no idea how to use it.
But when magic leads Wren to an enchanted necklace and reveals her secret, it’s not just Everglade chasing her. It’s the Eater – a terrifying creature who is determined to drain all magic from the world, and who really, really wants that necklace.
Leaving Everglade with nothing but the necklace, two accidental travel companions, and directions from a goat, Wren finds herself in a new and infinitely more magical world. And she’s the only one who can save it from the Eater. That is, if she can figure out magic.
No pressure.
Welcome to the world of Everglade, where the truth about witches is tangled with lies, and being yourself is the biggest risk of all.

Three reasons to read it:
- The Eater isn’t your average villain. It’s creepy, powerful and totally obsessed with sucking all the magic out of the world. Once Wren finds a mysterious enchanted necklace, the Eater is on her trail. The stakes are high, the chase is on and the only way to stop it… is with magic Wren doesn’t know how to use. Yet. Her journey and development push the story and the Eater makes everything 100-times more intense!
- The world outside Everglade is overflowing with magic, but it’s also full of danger, wonder and secrets just waiting to be uncovered. As Wren journeys deeper into this world, she meets strange creatures, faces big questions and discovers the truth behind the lies she’s always been told about witches and about herself.
- At its heart, Everglade is about having the courage to be you. Wren is different in a town that hates different. But she doesn’t back down. She discovers that sometimes the biggest kind of magic isn’t shooting sparks from your fingers, it’s standing up for yourself, believing in who you are and embracing the things that make you unique.
About the author:
Kitty currently lives in Perth, but has lived in lots of other places like Melbourne, Hong Kong and Mt Isa. From these experiences she learned that she likes café’s, the ocean (looking at it but not necessarily being on it) and internet access. Kitty studied psychology and wound up doing lots of research type things and talking to people about their feelings type things, but mainly discovered that stories are the most important things in the world. These days, Kitty can be found in lots of places, often in café’s with internet access, near the ocean, writing a story. She is very happy, as are her husband, two children (who do sleep now), two cats (actually they’re probably not happy unless they’re getting fed; the proper food, not the dry food… ugh) and a puppy named Polly (who is always, always very happy).
