How can you ever move on, if you can’t let go?
Anna’s world was shattered three years ago when her husband Spencer was killed in a tragic accident. Her friends and family think it’s time she moved on, but how can she when she’s lost her soulmate?
On New Year’s Eve, Anna calls Spencer’s old phone just to hear his voicemail greeting. But to her surprise someone else picks up…
Brody has inherited Spencer’s old number and is the first person who truly understands what Anna is going through. As they begin to speak regularly, Anna finds herself opening up and slowly she discovers how to smile again, how to laugh, even how to hope.
But Brody hasn’t been entirely honest with Anna. Will his secret threaten everything, just as it seems she might find the courage to love again?
Captivating, hopeful, and full of emotional power, The Last Goodbye is an unforgettable story in the vein of P.S. I Love You about two people learning to love again after great loss, perfect for fans of Jojo Moyes and Josie Silver.
Fiona Lucas is an award-winning author who has written heart-warming love stories and feel-good women’s fiction as Fiona Harper for more than a decade. With The Last Goodbye, Lucas takes her work in an entirely new direction, stepping away from romantic comedies to explore more emotionally complex themes. And the result is fantastic. I loved this novel. Call me crazy, but I’m a sucker for tragic romantic dramas – I adored P.S. I Love You and Jojo Moyes’ novels are always at the top of my TBR list – which is why I was very keen to get my hands on The Last Goodbye. And I’m so glad I did. It’s heart-breaking yet heart-warming, and I’m not ashamed to admit I was a little teary-eyed there at the end.
The novel follows Anna who is struggling to get over the loss of her husband and soulmate Spencer. Anna is a wonderful protagonist whose grief is portrayed poignantly on the page. She’s also highly relatable and my heart-ached for her as she reluctantly puts the pieces of her life back together when all she wants to do is curl up under her duvet and forget the world exists. I also really enjoyed following her relationship with Brody, and the connection they share is quite touching.
The Last Goodbye is a moving story of love, loss and grief. It’s a gorgeous read, just make sure you have a packet of Kleenex on hand – this one’s a tear-jerker.
