A Creeptastic New Series: Read Our Review of Horror Heights: The Slime by Bec Hill

There is a rumour going around that we are all living in Horror Heights. We just don’t know it yet…

Connie hasn’t found her talent yet, but at least she has her slime collection – if it’s gooey, she’s got it! She hopes that by adding a few extra ingredients to a simple recipe she will uncover a talent for slime-making, but alas, all she uncovers is a hot, stinky mess that ends up in the bin. It’s shaping up to be another uneventful weekend… until her failed slime experiment wakes her up the next morning. It’s alive! And can talk! And is named… Big.

Big adores Connie and wants to protect her from everything at all times, which is very sweet. At first. But when it gets bigger, grows teeth, and threatens to eat her friends and father, can Connie uncover her true talents in order to protect everything from THE SLIME?

Welcome to Horror Heights: can the children who live here conceal the strange goings on behind closed doors? It’s Goosebumps for a new generation, by award-winning comedian and CITV presenter Bec Hill.

The Slime is the first in a creeptastic new series for readers aged eight and up. What starts off as a girl wanting to find her talent turns into a terrifying tale of slime. While the concept of slime doesn’t seem scary, a talking and threatening slime capable of world domination is chilling. But if you find that scary, you’ll be even more frightened to learn that the book is based on real reports and eyewitness accounts!

With Hill’s background as a performer, presenter, and part-time paranormal investigator, it’s hard to believe these accounts aren’t true – even if it seems completely absurd! But don’t be deterred by the creepy truth behind this novel, because there’s a lot of relatability, and hilarious moments throughout. Between the many many farts and gross smells, there’s also an inspiring tale about learning to fit in, accepting others, and appreciating each person for who they are. We all have a place in this world – perhaps except any evil talking slimes.

The Slime had me giggling, gasping, and gripping the edge of my seat as the story unfolded. It’s a spooktastic read for the month of October, and I can’t wait to see what scary true story Hill has in store for us in book #2. So, are you brave enough to discover the scares behind every door at Horror Heights?
