Mitch Rapp returns to make a mortal enemy of Russia in this high-octane instalment in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.
Mitch Rapp hates owing anyone a favour – especially when it’s the world’s most powerful crime lord. But when Damian Losa calls, Mitch is honour-bound to answer.
The Syrian government appears to have created a highly addictive new narcotic that it plans to distribute throughout Europe. It’s a major threat to Losa’s business and he’s determined to send someone to keep him on top by any means necessary. Rapp is the perfect choice for the mission. Not only does he have extensive experience operating in the Middle East, but he’s also entirely expendable.
As he crosses into war-torn Syria, Rapp quickly discovers a shocking truth. The new drug isn’t being produced by Damascus to prop up the government’s collapsing finances. Instead, it was created by Russia’s asymmetrical warfare unit, not for profit but as a weapon against the West.
With far more than Damian Losa’s interests at stake, Rapp devises a desperate plan that forces him and his team onto a battlefield where the United States is virtually powerless and allegiances shift almost hourly. Because if Russia uncovers their plot, it will set off a confrontation between the two countries that could change the course of human history.
If, like me, you’re new to the Mitch Rapp series, you’re in for a treat. While this novel is a heart-thumping page-turner, the story behind this series is just as fascinating as the one between the covers of the novel.
After sixty publisher rejections, Vince Flynn self-published his first novel in 1999. It went straight to number one, and two days later he had a book deal. He began writing his now mega-bestselling Mitch Rapp series, but in 2013, 49-year-old Mills died of prostate cancer.
With the support of Vince Flynn’s family and team, the beloved series continued, with Kyle Mills at the helm. Mills made it his own, building the already large fanbase to mega proportions. Now with book #22, Code Red, Mills is passing the torch on to focus on a character from one of his own books. This is big news in the Rappverse.
Can this novel itself live up to the story behind it? Yes, and then some. This is a high-octane political thriller, with nail-biting action in several global locations and some fairly graphic violence. Mitch owes a favour to a drug cartel boss and is sent to Syria to check out a new narcotic that has been produced. But there’s more to this drug than first suspected – it’s funded by Russia, with the intention of using it as a weapon against the west, and it’s a race against time to stop this from happening.
This was an enthralling read that kept me up way past lights out. With twenty-one novels to choose from, I’ll definitely be checking out the series backlist. But in the meantime, I’m telling everyone about Code Red.
