Tamiko shuffles along the beach on her hands and knees. The sharp pebbles dig into her skin, but she hardly notices. She’s focused on her favourite thing – hunting for fossils! Sifting through sand with her fingers, Tamiko spots an ammonite, a sea creature that lived at the same time as the dinosaurs. Nestled in her hands, she can’t wait to study her new treasure.
Strolling home, Tamiko pauses outside her favourite shop. She gazes at the glittering display of crystals, fossils, and semi-precious stones. But something else catches her eye, a glowing compass symbol. A thrill runs through Tamiko. The compass is the symbol of The Secret Explorers – they have a new mission!
On this mission, Tamiko and Cheng, the geology explorer, travel back to the age of the dinosaurs in an effort to rescue a dinosaur egg from destruction. However, to save the egg, the Secret Explorers have to use all their courage and skills to outsmart a fierce Allosaurus, rescue a baby Stegosaurus, and find a way to attract and Archaeopteryx. Tamiko and Cheng soon find that in order to succeed, they need to come up with some unusual solutions.
With facts about dinosaurs, fossils, and why modern birds are dinosaurs, this adventure is perfect for young readers aged 7+.
