An Irresistible Return: Read Our Review of Forging Silver into Stars by Brigid Kemmerer

When ancient magic tests a newfound love, a dark fate beckons…

Tycho of Rillisk has been a lot of things: son and brother, stablehand, prisoner, soldier and friend to the king. Now, four years after Grey took the throne of Emberfall, Tycho has taken on a new role: courier and spy. As the only person the king can trust, Tycho carries secret messages back and forth between the kingdoms of Emberfall and Syhl Shallow.

But even though the war is over, peace still seems far away. A dangerous anti-magical faction is rising, and when Tycho discovers a plot to assassinate Grey and Queen Lia Mara, ruler of Syhl Shallow, he must fight for everything he believes in.

Nothing here is as it seems, and after a devastating betrayal, it becomes clear that the danger is only just beginning…

Brigid Kemmerer is the author of the New York Times bestselling Cursebreaker series, which includes A Curse So Dark and Lonely, A Heart So Fierce and Broken and A Vow So Bold and Deadly.

Now you can rediscover the worlds of Emberfall and Syhl Shallow in Forging Silver into Stars, a spinoff of the Cursebreaker series and the first book in a new trilogy. It’s set four years after the end of A Vow So Bold and Deadly and is told from three point of views: Tycho, who we first met in A Heart So Fierce and Broken, and Jax and Callyn, two completely new characters.

Magic has been banished in the land of Syhl Shallow for as long as eighteen-year-old best friends Jax and Callyn can remember. But when they learn that magic has returned, the two suddenly find themselves embroiled in a world of shifting alliances, dangerous flirtations and ancient magic… where even the deepest loyalties will be tested.

As a huge fan of the Cursebreaker series, it was thrilling to dive back into this captivating world. Kemmerer’s world-building is fantastic and doesn’t skip a beat as she follows a new cast of characters who have incredible chemistry. The three changing perspectives will keep you guessing from beginning to end, reeling to know what happens next.

But don’t be deterred if you haven’t read the Cursebreaker books, this trilogy can definitely be read as a standalone. Though if you read Forging Silver into Stars as quickly as I did, I recommend going back to read the Cursebreaker series. Not only will you learn a lot more about this fantastic world, but it will also help fill the void as you await the sequel to Forging Silver into Stars. I recommend this novel to readers aged 14+ and avid YA readers of all ages.
