Book Week Frenzy: Read Our Review of There’s No Such Book by Jessica Dettmann, illustrated by Jake A Minton

It’s the night before the Book Week parade and Ellie announces that she needs a costume by the morning. Mum, who is taken by surprise, desperately tries to piece together a costume from what’s lying around the house…

Ellie heads to bed only with Mum’s promise that she’ll have a costume sorted by the morning. Mum stays true to her word, but perhaps not in the way that Ellie was hoping.

From Sydney-based writer and performer Jessica Dettmann comes There’s No Such Book – a hilarious and realistic picture book that children and adults alike will love.

I remember being a kid, feeling the excitement and intrigue associated with school events such as the Easter Hat Parade, Halloween and, of course, Book Week. Considering my parents often dealt with making these events (and associated costumes) come to life, I never realised exactly how much time, effort and work goes into the process. Now an adult, I can resonate with any parent and child who has experienced the frenzy of Book Week.

With bright and vivacious illustrations by Jake A. Minton, There’s No Such Book is visually stunning, complemented by Dettmann’s lively storytelling. Kids often forget to announce that these school events are on until the very last minute, and then the pressure is on for parents and carers!

With no time to go shopping to buy a costume or get some DIY materials, Ellie’s mum needs to piece together a costume with whatever she has at home. The frenzy makes Ellie, her mum and readers go through a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Perfect for children aged 5+, this book will have you belly-laughing from start to finish while also warming your heart. I couldn’t recommend it more.

Books about war are probably the best there is. This is our history that cannot be forgotten. There’s probably nothing interesting, because you realize it was there and it can’t be changed. Of course such stories are not the most pleasant, but you can’t help it, it is what it is. By the way, I wrote about it recently. Found used https://edubirdie.com/cheap-dissertation-writing-services for this. The main thing I wanted to convey in my work is that people need to do everything in order that such a thing would never happen again. History of this nature must not happen again. I think I am not alone with this opinion.
