Entrusted to run her grandfather’s real estate business, Karlana Vogel’s determined to make it thrive. Pop raised her in small-town Acacia Haven after her parents died, so the family legacy is her pride and joy. When the competition, a cocky city mogul, breezes into town with a deal to take over, she’s incensed.
Hudson Grenville came from less than nothing and has worked nonstop to turn it all around. But he’s only a hard-nosed salesman on the outside – buying the Vogels’ agency is the linchpin he needs to make his housing project for homeless kids work. Unless he’s willing to let down all those counting on him, he has no choice but to stick around town and try to persuade Karly to sell.
Despite being on opposite sides of the boardroom, the deal is complicated by the chemistry that keeps bringing them back to the table. Both parties will have to assess what they want out of life. And what they’re willing to give up…
Nicola Marsh is a bestselling Australian author who has sold more than eight million copies worldwide. With an impressive backlist of 80 novels across multiple genres, including thrillers and YA, you can always expect a great story when picking up a Nicola Marsh book. But she’s best known among BR readers for her captivating rural romances. As with her previous novel Summer of Serenity, readers are invited back to the small town of Acacia Haven in The Promise of Home, this time following Karly and Hudson as they struggle with business dealings and their growing feelings for each other.
Being back in Acacia Haven feels like reuniting with an old friend. Marsh neatly captures the charming nature of small town life, complete with nosy neighbours and community spirit. I enjoyed the contrast between Hudson with his fast-paced, city attitude as he clashes with Karly who’s carrying a family legacy on her shoulders. The pair have a lot of chemistry, exchanging plenty of stolen glances and flirty jabs, making for some hilarious and complicated interactions throughout.
If you’re looking for an escape, a trip to Acacia Haven might be in order. The Promise of Home is a heart-warming read from a writer who knows how to deliver a great story.
