Better Reading Presents: Australia’s Top 50 Kids’ Books

Australia, you voted – here are your Top 50 Kids’ Books!

There are lots of beloved children’s classics as well as some new favourites – and plenty of Australian books on the list too, with Australian authors taking up FIVE of the top ten spots!

Whether it’s laughing along with the Cat in the Hat (#28), saying ridiculously silly words in The Book with No Pictures (#30) or another reread of The Gruffalo (#12), there are loads of picture books to share with a little one.

Many Aussie favourites have made the list, including Possum Magic (#2), Where is the Green Sheep? (#3) and Pig the Pug (#6), as well as  Koala Lou (#17) and Wombat Stew (#29), to name just a few.

For primary school readers, you can’t go past Roald Dahl – Matilda (#10), The BFG (#14 – read it before you see the movie), and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (#42).

Or get them hooked on a series – try Harry Potter (#11), of course, and also Diary of a Wimpy Kid (#22), WeirDo (#24), Percy Jackson (#41), Tom Gates (#49), or the Australian smash-hit Treehouse series (#5)!

Teenagers can dive into the bestselling fantasy series Throne of Glass (#36) or the page-turning Australian saga that starts with Tomorrow, When the War Began (#39).

And then there’s the classics – The Very Hungry Caterpillar (#1), Anne of Green Gables (#21), The Magic Faraway Tree (#9), The Secret Garden (#26) and many, many more.
