Trapped in a Perfect Life: Review of The Gilded Cage by Camilla Lackberg

Trapped in a Perfect Life: Review of The Gilded Cage by Camilla Lackberg

Faye Adelheim has what appears to be a charmed life. She has a stunning home in one of the most exclusive areas in Stockholm, a handsome and successful husband that allows her to have everything she could ever want and a beautiful daughter that she is devoted to.

What people don’t see is that Faye has worked hard to create a new life for herself, to escape the demons of her past.

When Faye arrives in Stockholm, leaving behind her violent father and her birth name of Matilda, she starts to re-write her back story. When she meets Jack at Stockholm School of Economics and is drawn into his privileged world things really begin to take shape. Everyone wants Jack’s attention but all he wants is Faye. It’s intoxicating and there is nothing she wouldn’t do to share a life with him.

Years later she has sacrificed her own career to support her husband in developing a highly successful business and devote herself to her family. However, she has found herself in a gilded cage and when Jack humiliates Faye and replaces her with a younger model, she is left with a life in ruins.

Yet Faye is not someone that should be under-estimated and when she decides to give Jack a taste of his own medicine there is no stopping her.

This gripping new thriller will keep you hooked from the first page to the last! I couldn’t put it down – I just needed to know what was going to happen.  It’s suspenseful, psychological and thoroughly satisfying. Faye is complex and the things she does are sometimes questionable – it’s not always easy to know whose side you should be on.

This was my first Camilla Lackberg book, but she is a worldwide bestselling author renowned for her brilliant contemporary psychological thrillers. She has sold over 12 million copies of her books so you are in the hands of an expert who delivers time and again. The fortunate thing about it being my first Camilla Lackberg is that I can now go and read some of her backlist and I am making that a priority!

There are twists and turns and you will not see the end coming but I can’t reveal any more… you’ll just have to make a cup of tea, put your feet up, block out the rest of the world and immerse yourself in The Gilded Cage.

        1. Carolyn says:

Very disappointing in comparison with previous books. Sloppy writing and repetition, previous books much much better than this one.

        2. Lucy says:

Not up to the standard of previous books. Predictable and monotonous.
