What inspired the idea behind this book?
I carried the idea for this duology with me for quite some time, but I haven’t dared writing this book earlier. However, I have become braver and stronger with age. With Faye and The Golden CageI wanted to write a story about a woman who has had enough.
What was the research process like for the book?
Research is an important part of my job as an author, and it’s a process I very much enjoy. The main character, Faye, is a result of where society is today and I can see a part of Faye in every woman I have ever met. My readers and followers on social media are also a great source of inspiration, they share generously of their lives and I feel lucky to have such devoted readers and followers.
If I looked at your internet history, what would it reveal about you?
I’m crazy addicted to Google! Sometimes I’m almost afraid of getting put behind bars if someone saw my search history on my computer 😉. But, I’m doing it for my books!
What are you hoping the reader will take away from reading your book?
With The Golden Cage I hope the readers feel empowered afterwards, even if Faye and her methods of taking revenge are quite extreme, I believe and hope that one can feel strengthen after the reading. The sisterhood in this book is really important to me as well, and I want to encourage women of taking control over their own lives.
Does the creative process get easier for you with each book?
Creativity is such a blessing for me! For as long as I can remember I have had a lot of ideas and is a true fan of brainstorming and being creative with others. Nowadays this creativity takes different shapes and forms, but it’s still an important outlet for me.
How does it feel to hold your book in your hands?
Amazing! Even after having published over 20 books, it’s still a fantastic feeling, somewhat surrealistic. Something that previously was only to be found in my brain and imagination is now inside the cover of a book.
What was the most challenging part of writing this book?
This has been my biggest challenge as an author! After ten books in the Fjällbacka series I stepped out of my comfort zone big time and now I feel proud that I dared to challenge myself so much.
How did you think of the title of the book?
The title came to me quite naturally this time. I knew I wanted something symbolic and multilayered, and I think The Golden Cage is a really nice one.
What is something that has influenced you as a writer?
My father gave me the love of literature and books, and he is still extremely important to me as an author. Thanks to him I discovered Agatha Christie and other crime writers, I’m still very grateful.
What’s the easiest and most difficult parts of your job as a writer?
I love writing, using my imagination and creating new worlds with interesting and fascinating people in them! The solitude can be difficult, but I have a wonderful network consisting of other authors and I make sure to spend time with my friends and family during my writing periods.
