Favourite childhood memory: Swimming in an outdoor pool, floating on my back, looking up at clouds and crows, and feeling weightless.

Best known for: Wearing enormous earrings.

How she became a writer: First, through a love of reading, followed by teachers who saw a spark in my first attempts at writing and who then – generously – fanned those sparks to a flame.
