Book News: Awards, Adelaide Writers’ Week and a Blind Date with a Book

The Audie Awards

The Audie Awards have officially released their finalists for 2020! The Audie Awards are given by the American Audio Publishers Association for audiobooks and spoken-word entertainment each year.

Bolinda is very excited to announce that two of their audiobooks are finalists this year: Madame Badobedah by Sophie Dahl in the Narration by Author category, and Columbiano by Rusty Young in the Fiction category.

Madame Badobedah is a timeless story celebrating friendship and imagination. An unlikely friendship grows between a young girl, Mabel, and an older lady, whose fantastical exploits take them well beyond the corridors of their seaside home. You can read our review here.

Keep your ears peeled for March 2nd when the annual Gala banquet is held to announce the winners at New York City’s Guastavino’s.

Blind Date with a Street Library

Take a chance with a ‘Blind Date with a Book’ this Valentine’s Day. Create a love buzz by wrapping up your books and placing them in your Street Library for your neighbours to know that they are never alone with a book. ‘Blind Date with a Book’ gives readers a great way to try something they never would have chosen otherwise, and that’s exactly where the fun is in the event. Share the love by tagging Street Library on Facebook or Instagram. #streetlibraryau

Adelaide Writers’ Week

The full program for Adelaide Writers’ Week has been released. This year, Writers’ Week contemplates one of the few things that incontrovertibly unites us all: Being Human. Writers’ Week explores how humans engage with each other, with technology, with the natural world.  It examines the stories we tell ourselves and those we construct. It asks from where we can draw solace and inspiration. It challenges us to avoid apathy and despair. It applauds our curiosity in and engagement with the wider world. It seeks joy and stimulation in our intellect and each other. This year sees the return of the weekend for younger readers, including the powerful showcase of spoken word performance, Hear Me Roar!
