Listen to the podcast
In this week’s podcast Cheryl is joined by Kate Wild to discuss her recent release, Waiting for Elijah – a true crime novel about a mentally ill young man who is shot dead by a police officer.
The book is an account of a tragedy that didn’t have to happen, as well as an intense, forensic deconstruction of the extended legal proceedings that followed, and a heartbreaking portrait of a family’s grief. Cheryl and Kate talk about the background research required to write the book, and the social and legal stigma that surrounds mental health.
