Bryce Quinlan and Hunt Athalar have made a pact. As they process the events of the Spring they will keep things… platonic… until the Solstice. But can they resist when the crackling tension between them is enough to set the whole of Crescent City aflame?
And they are not out of danger yet. Dragged into a rebel movement they want no part of, Bryce, Hunt and their friends find themselves pitted against the terrifying Asteri – whose notice they must avoid at all costs. But as they learn more about the rebel cause, they face a choice: stay silent while others are oppressed, or fight. And they’ve never been very good at staying silent.
From the bestselling author of the Throne of Glass and Court of Thorns and Roses series comes House of Sky and Breath, the highly anticipated new instalment in Sarah J. Maas’ ground-breaking Crescent City series. In this sexy, action-packed sequel, Maas weaves a captivating story of a world about to explode – and the people who will do anything to save it.
After dominating the YA fantasy scene for the past few years, Maas made the switch to adult fantasy with the release of her first Crescent City novel, House of Earth and Blood. The result was a darker, grittier and – if possible – steamier story, filled with violence, intrigue and morally grey characters.
The first novel in the series introduced readers to half-human, half-fae Bryce Quinlan whose investigation into the death of her best friend drew her into the shadowy underbelly of the Crescent City. In this second novel, Maas’ intricate world-building is put on full display as she draws readers even further into the history, politics and lore of this sprawling fantasy world and the mythical creatures that inhabit it.
The novel picks up where House of Earth and Blood left off, with Bryce attempting to process the events that concluded the first book. As far as protagonists go, Bryce is one of Maas’ best. She’s a strong, loyal and spunky female lead whom readers can’t help but root for. Bryce’s relationship with Hunt is further explored here too, with the couple sharing plenty of steamy moments, despite their pact to remain ‘platonic’. While Bryce and Hunt’s story still sits front and centre, dozens of other characters come into play as well, and Maas seamlessly weaves these narrative strands together to produce a rich, sweeping story of immense scope.
Packed with page-turning action, sizzling romance and enough twists and turns to drive fans crazy, House of Sky and Breath is an exhilarating read that further cements Maas’ position at the top of this genre.
