Chapter 1
Zola Angelica lives with her mum and her Nonna Rosa.
They live in a little house, in a little street, in a little suburb, in the middle of a big city.
Zola would be the first to say that she’s a very lucky girl.
Who else gets to live behind their cousin, Alessandro? And next door to friends like Omar and Bianca in number ten and Leo in number fourteen.
It’s how she teaches Alessandro to count by twos.
‘Two, four, six, eight, ten, twelve, fourteen,’ they count together on the way to school each morning.
Zola spends most afternoons with her friends, except for when she has music practice. Maybe you’ve heard her play the trombone?
She already knows the F note and the E note and the D note.
