Andy and Terry have built their biggest and most astonishing treehouse yet! It has everything they – and you – could wish for, including an electric pony stable, a Santa Land, a NOISY level, a kangaroo-riding range, a WHATEVER-WEATHER-YOU-WANT dome, a 100% edible gingerbread house and a hall of funhouse mirrors. But Anti-Andy, Terrible-Terry and Junkyard-Jill, their doppelgangers, are trapped in one of the mirrors – and they want out.
Well, what are you waiting for? Come on up!
Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton might just be Australia’s most loved creative duo. They’ve been making hilarious, pitch-perfect books for kids since 1997, when their first collaborative kids’ book, Just Tricking! was published. Since then, many of their books have won awards, but it’s the millions of copies sold to kids all around the globe that really confirm their ingenious knack for capturing the imagination of readers!
Young and old readers everywhere have adored the Treehouse series from the very start, and BR Kids readers are no exception! The 13-Storey Treehouse, the very first book in the series, came in at #10 on the 2023 Top 50 Kids list, proving its enduring appeal. And it’s no wonder – this series is an explosion of fun, imagination and creativity. What kid doesn’t dream of building a magical, ever-growing treehouse packed with anything and everything their heart desires?
Thirteen years and thirteen books later, this iconic series is finally coming to a close: The 169-Storey Treehouse will be the last. But, of course, Griffiths and Denton are going out with a bang! It can’t have been easy coming up with the ending to such a longstanding and jam-packed series, but they really have nailed it.
The book starts with a whip-around tour of their biggest, most impressive treehouse yet. But it’s not long until things start to go awry, and Andy, Terry and Jill must use all their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills to set things right…
This fantastic series finale really showcases Griffiths and Denton at their finest. Griffiths’ text is hilarious, Denton’s illustrations are exuberant, and the whole storyline is wonderfully, characteristically unhinged.
I think what makes this series so special is the way it celebrates the joy of creative spontaneity within collaborative friendships, both in its real-life creation and in the imaginative stories it contains. There’s so much to laugh about, reflect on and engage with – for readers young and old! If you’re looking for a book to captivate an easily distracted, hesitant or reluctant reader aged 7+, you really can’t go past this one.
If your kid is an existing fan of the Treehouse series, you’ve probably already got this on your radar! But if you’re only just jumping on the bandwagon, this is a wonderful place to start. Afterward, you’ll probably want to go right back to the start.
While this might be the end of the Treehouse, it’s certainly not the end for Griffiths and Denton. I can’t wait to see where their wild imaginations take us next…
