A New Rat-tastic Series: Read Our Review of Ratbags: Naughty for Good by Tim Harris, Illustrated by Shiloh Gordon

Let’s face it – rats are mischief. Rats are rule-breakers. Rats are ratbags. They’re all the same. All, that is, except one…

When Jigsaw runs into two of the most ratbaggy Ratbags known to rats, his orderly world is turned upside down and he pulls off one of the best pizza heists EVER! Will his newfound pizza obsession make Jigsaw the naughtiest Ratbag yet? Or will Jigsaw figure out how to be naughty – for good?!

Tim Harris is the bestselling author of several laugh-out-loud series for kids, including Toffle Towers, Mr Bambuckle’s Remarkables and Exploding Endings. His humorous writing style has seen his books receive multiple awards, including five KOALA Honour Books and a CBCA Notable in 2018. His newest outing sees him teaming up with illustrator Shiloh Gordon in this stupendously rat-tastic series.

Brace yourself for a rip-roaring ride into the world of the Ratbags, where being nasty is the norm. Jigsaw isn’t like the rest of the rats; he loves rules, order and, most of all, humans. After Ripple and Onion save him from a dangerous stray cat named Cracker, they convince Jigsaw that the only way to make it up to them is if he helps them steal a freshly cooked pizza. The last thing he wants to do is break the rules, but when Jigsaw gets a sniff of that tantalising scrumptious meatball pizza, he finds himself unable to resist.

Naughty for Good is an absolute riot! Gordon’s lively illustrations and comic style bring Harris’ narration to life in an adventure filled with heists and mayhem. The panels are carefully curated, and each page is filled to the brim with little easter eggs – like the cameos from a little bug named Derek – that will have kids poring over the pages.

I particularly loved the friendship development between Jigsaw, Ripple and Onion. Even though Jigsaw is quite different than the other two, they find themselves wanting to be friends with him for more than just the heists. Harris really lets you get to know all the characters, making them easily accessible for readers. With a tantalising hint of what’s to come, I can’t wait to see what happens next in book #2!

If you’re looking for an exciting new series to get your little ones into reading, then look no further than Ratbags: Naughty for Good. This would be fantastic for ages 6 and above.
