Worth the Wait: Read Our Review of Keeper of the Lost Cities #9: Stellarlune by Shannon Messenger

Author Shannon Messenger has won numerous awards for the Keeper of the Lost Cities series and the Skyfall series. Drawing on her background in cinematic arts, she writes fast-paced adventure stories that have featured on New York Times bestseller lists and proven popular in many countries around the world.  This first book in the Keeper of the Lost Cities series was first released in 2012. Messenger has written nine books in this series, and is putting the finishing touches to a tenth book.

Stellarlune is the stunning, long-awaited ninth book in the series. This instalment is well worth the wait and will have you racing through all 728 pages in no time, with Sophie and her friends discovering the true meaning of power – and evil.

Sophie Foster changed the game. Now she’s facing impossible choices: when to act, when to try and when to let go. Her friends are divided and scattered, and the Black Swan wants Sophie to focus on their projects. But her instincts are leading her somewhere else.

Stellarlune – and the mysterious Elysian – might be the key to everything. But finding truth in the Lost Cities always requires sacrifice. And as the Neverseen’s plans sharpen into terrifying focus, it appears that everyone has miscalculated. The Lost Cities’ greatest lie could destroy everything. And in the battle that follows, only one thing is certain: nothing will ever be the same.

Sophie is a strong female character; a smart and enthusiastic student, whose journeys in the Keeper of the Lost Cities series encourage her to overcome her fears and depend on her own abilities. Now in the thick of adolescence, she faces the same challenges as other young people of that age.

In true Keeper of the Lost Cities fashion, there are brushes with evil forces, excruciating pain, enemies and tests that will test boundaries and limits. There’s an emphasis on the importance of relationships in Stellarlune, and how they can transcend time, power and evil.

This series is perfect for fans of Harry Potter and any reader aged 10+ who is looking for a series that will draw them into a fantastic world of wonderful characters and creatures. There’s no doubt Messenger’s loyal fans will be (im)patiently awaiting book #10 in the series – I know I am!
